I took on a case where a butane truck driver—plagued by micro-sleep—crashed into my client while he was filling potholes for his employer. This wasn’t just a tragic accident. It was the result of dangerous, systemic policies by the trucking company. They knowingly put a driver with a history of sleep apnea and medical call-outs behind the wheel during the hours he was normally asleep—on zero notice. My client paid the price. I made sure the company did too.
In this workshop, I will break down how I conducted a powerful, strategic voir dire in a trucking case where the defendant’s reckless decisions nearly killed my client. My client wasn’t in the courtroom—he was dealing with the lasting impact of a mild traumatic brain injury, along with some pre-existing injuries the defense tried to weaponize. But this case was never about a perfect plaintiff. It was about corporate accountability. I will show how I connected with jurors from the start, addressed bias around invisible injuries, and kept the focus exactly where it belonged: on a trucking company that threw a known sleepy driver behind the wheel of a butane truck during his normal sleep hours… with zero notice. This wasn’t just jury selection—it was the first strike in holding that company fully responsible.
