Cross examination requires both knowledge/strategy and skill. We have reduced the core skills to master to improve the effectiveness of your delivery are:
1. Leading questions only
2. One new fact per question
3. Looping
4. Drop the tag lines like; “right, correct, isn’t that true, true, etc”
5. Drop the filler words like; “and, um, so, ok, etc.”
6. Cross in the present tense
7. Tempo, slow down and breath
8. Control our emotional state
9. Effectively using a flip chart
10. Bringing the jury in on cross
11. Creating space in the question
12. Effectively using demonstratives in cross
These skills will be demonstrated in the context of the defense medical examiner cross on the right way versus the wrong way to do a medical evaluation, and a defendant truck driver.
